Your global CLAUDE.md is an inventory, not rules
One file loads into every Claude session on your machine. Most people fill it with rules and poison half their projects. As posted on TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn — the full story, one slide per card.
Your global CLAUDE.md is an inventory, not a rulebook.
One file loads into every Claude session on your machine. Most people fill it with rules and poison half their projects.
The broadest file on the machine.
~/.claude/CLAUDE.md loads at the start of every session, in every directory, on every project. A convention that's right for one project is wrong for the next — and a global rulebook quietly biases everything toward whatever you built last.
What survives global scope.
"Always use Tailwind" is a great global rule.
Loaded globally it follows you into the Swift experiment and the Liquid theme. Conventions don't generalize; availability does. "Tailwind is installed" is true everywhere. "Use Tailwind" is not.
The disclaimer is the load-bearing part.
# Available Inventory
This file is a catalog of what is installed
and available globally. It is NOT a set of
rules, defaults, conventions, or guidelines.
Every project is different. Pick whatever
the brief calls for. If a project needs
something not listed here, install it.
> Last synced with the filesystem: YYYY-MM-DD.An inventory informs; it never constrains. And a snapshot of a machine needs a date.
The studio's runs 329 lines — deliberately.

The docs target under 200 lines because long instructions decay. A pure catalog skims like a menu, not a contract — mix rules in and the ceiling matters fast.
Claude plans with what you own.
Ask a fresh session which animation libraries are available: Lenis, GSAP + ScrollTrigger, Framer Motion, React Three Fiber — straight off the shelf. No web search, no installs, no guessing.
Build yours in ten minutes.
- touch ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md, paste the skeleton
- Keep the disclaimer wording intact
- Let Claude audit the machine — list only what it verifies
- Date the snapshot: "Last synced: YYYY-MM-DD"
- /memory confirms it loads into every session
- Global says what exists; project says what to use
